Completion

Phase 1: May 2019

Phase 2: July 2023

The first phase of the extensive labor and delivery renovation project took place on an accelerated seven-month construction schedule. To minimize disruptions, Sterling completed the work in eight phases, taking two rooms out of service at a time to completely renovate all finishes and mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems while the adjacent rooms remained active. We developed phasing plans and coordinated with all user groups to ensure all critical needs were met. Once the private rooms where completed, the focus moved to the corridors, restrooms and nurse’s stations. This dedicated focus ensured the uninterrupted delivery of healthcare services throughout construction.

This first phase included the addition of seven delivery rooms, a nurse’s station, a testing suite, clean utility rooms, and associated spaces. Due to our exceptional performance on this first phase, Melrose Wakefield Hospital chose to negotiate the second phase of this project directly with the Sterling team. Although the second phase was partially delayed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, we came back onsite in 2023 to complete renovations throughout the remainder of the maternity and delivery space.
