Sterling Constrution transformed 3,000 square feet of existing space within the Aaron Lazare Medical Research Building into a highly specialized gnotobiotic vivarium. This thoughtfully designed renovation converts a former cafeteria into a modern, sterile research environment that supports groundbreaking work in microbiome and biomedical science.
The new facility includes dedicated spaces for animal breeding, procedures, sterilization, and gowning, all built to meet the strict requirements of gnotobiotic research. Construction included the installation of a supported catwalk in an interstitial space above the ceiling for access to MEP equipment. This work was carefully planned and required extensive coordination.
With upgraded HVAC, fire protection, electrical, and life safety infrastructure systems, this vivarium offers an advanced, controlled environment that enables high-precision, contamination-free research
